The program opens with the world premiere of Worlds Within Worlds, a collaboration between Tacoma composer Gregory Youtz and Seattle painter Gary Faigin, whose surreal still-life imagery confronts the beauty, fragility, and peril of our changing world. Reich/Richter unites Steve Reich’s driving minimalism with Gerhard Richter’s mesmerizing film Moving Picture (946-3). This multimedia experience transforms the concert hall into a living gallery of contemporary art.

The first half pairs Anna Clyne’s achingly poignant Within Her Arms, written in memory of her mother, with the exhilarating sweep of Alexander Miller’s ROCOmoji, which invites a sextet of double reeds to join the strings for a vibrant, witty sonic palette that will make you lol 😉. Schoenberg’s passionate Transfigured Night concludes the program, unfolding in a richly textured, intimate score that moves from night-shrouded anguish to radiant reconciliation at dawn.
